Javier Bautista
Javier Bautista Javier Bautista (he/they) is a final-year PhD candidate at the Institute of Neurology. Here, he chats to us about his work in the field of dementia, how he co-founded the LGBTQ+ STEM@UCL Network and his journey at UCL over the last seven years. What are you studying, why are you interested in this subject and what do you plan to do in the future? . My PhD is in neuroscience. More specifically, I am interested in understanding how frontotemporal dementia occurs with the goal of better characterising the mechanism and contributing to the development of a new cure. Recently, I had the honour to be selected as one of Spain's top 10 brightest young minds to lead the future in the Healthcare and Life Sciences category, as part of the Nova 111 list. After UCL, I will be heading to a strategy consulting firm with the plan to specialise in healthcare and pharma whilst using all the skills I learnt during my studies.
