Ibrahim Abubakar appointed Pro-Provost (Health) at UCL

Ibrahim Abubakar Professor Ibrahim Abubakar, Dean of the Faculty of Population Health Sciences, has been announced as UCL's first Pro-Provost (Health). He takes up the 0.2FTE appointment alongside his current position as Dean. As Pro-Provost (Health), Professor Abubakar provides additional senior academic leadership for UCL's work with its health partners, becoming the senior point of connection for UCL's wide range of health partners, in coordination with our Faculties. He will also lead the development of UCL's health strategy, provide leadership to the Health Partnership team, and advise UMC on our relationship with the wider health system. Professor Abubakar, a world leading scholar in the field of infectious disease epidemiology, joined UCL in 2012 as Professor of Infectious Disease Epidemiology, and became Director of the Institute of Global Health in 2016. He has also served as Vice-Dean (International and External Engagement) for the Faculty of Population Health Sciences before becoming Dean in 2021. Welcoming his appointment, Dr Michael Spence, President & Provost of UCL, said: "This is a vital role for UCL, and I am really delighted that we have been able to appoint a Pro-Provost with the experience, knowledge and global reputation that is commensurate with our work with our world-leading health partners.
