Oxford academics recognised by Royal Society
The Royal Society has elected eight Oxford University academics as new Fellows. They are Professor Hagan Bayley, Professor Alan Grafen, Professor Ian Horrocks, Professor Alex Kacelnik, Professor Steffen Lauritzen, Professor David Manolopoulos, Professor Fiona Powrie and Professor Angela Vincent. Professor Hagan Bayley is Professor of Chemical Biology at the Department of Chemistry and a Fellow of Hertford College. He uses a multidisciplinary approach to investigate the fundamental properties of biological transmembrane protein pores and their applications in nanotechnology. His approach to single-molecule detection with engineered pores is being used by the company he founded, Oxford Nanopore. Professor Alan Grafen is Professor of Theoretical Biology at the Department of Zoology and a Fellow of St John's College. His research interests embrace inclusive fitness, biological game theory, strategic signalling and statistical techniques for analysing cross-species data.
