UCL launches innovative new Arts and Sciences undergraduate degree

UCL is launching a new undergraduate degree, the Bachelor in Arts and Sciences (BASc), to reflect a growing demand from both students and employers for interdisciplinary degree programmes. Course Director Carl Gombrich explained: 'UCL's Arts and Sciences degree is unlike any other degree in the UK. It allows students to create a bespoke programme, incorporating both arts and sciences. This is a brand new course designed to provide breadth and depth, with students able to fashion their own degrees in a combination of humanities / social sciences and sciences / engineering. Graduates will be well'equipped for work in a wide range of sectors of the global economy, as well as being fully prepared to enter most Masters programmes and other areas of further study.' All students on the BASc will study core interdisciplinary skills and a foreign language, along with new modules, designed by leading academics. These new modules reflect cutting'edge research and aim to encourage students to link together their studies in arts and sciences, as well as exploring the differences between these disciplines. Students will also explore non'core 'pathways' mentored by a carefully selected member of the UCL academic community. All students will be required to study a mix of arts and sciences throughout the degree programme and will also be offered the opportunity to study abroad for a year.
