UCL in 4th place in world university rankings

UCL has been ranked 4th in the QS 2012/13 World University Rankings, published today. UCL was one of four UK institutions in the top ten, along with Cambridge (2nd), Oxford (5th) and Imperial (6th). MIT overtook Cambridge and Harvard to be ranked as the world's number one university. UCL Provost Malcolm Grant said: "The methodology behind the various university league tables is always questionable, but the QS world rankings are one of the most highly cited. What is remarkable for London is to be the only city in the world to have two institutions in the top ten. I am delighted of course with UCL's showing - and also Imperial's - but of wider significance is that this outcome provides a base-point for comparison with London's major rivals as global cities, particularly New York. "These rankings also confirm the view that higher education. research, technology and health are all remarkable strengths of London, every bit as strong as financial services."
