As part of UCL’s 200th anniversary celebrations, we’re inviting a student photographer to create a bold, visually compelling cover image for the UCL200 Commemorative Volume.
The UCL200 Commemorative Volume is one of three new publications being released in 2026 to mark UCL’s Bicentenary. It will bring together colleagues from across UCL to explore 200 years of ground-breaking research, ideas and discoveries
With submissions from 100 authors, from across UCL’s 11 faculties and a diverse range of disciplines, the Volume will present a captivating snapshot of the strength, breadth and impact of UCL’s research - past, present and future - and the staff, students and partners that have made it happen.
We’re calling on our talented student community to help us in capturing a powerful, timeless image that reflects the legacy, innovation, and global impact of UCL and its future-facing spirit.

You’re welcome to take new photographs or submit any recent images you might have taken on UCL Campus. We’re looking for iconic images of UCL. This could include abstract views of the Portico and Main Quad or unique takes on areas of UCL that inspire you.
Please ensure you read the full competition brief thoroughly before submitting your entry.
Entrants are invited to submit up to five images for the competition. The deadline to submit your entry is 17 August 2025.
All entrants must be current and enrolled students of UCL, and must be the sole owner and author of their images.
Why apply?
The successful candidate will be credited in the volume and will receive a love-to-shop voucher for £200.
As part of this project, there will also be a unique chance to join a behind-the-scenes tour of the current Quad construction site. This exclusive session will give you direct, unobstructed access to photograph the UCL Portico.
