The Disability Equality Steering Group is recruiting: Expressions of interest now open

The Disability Equality Steering Group (DESG) is now recruiting a new Co-chair as well as communication and events members.

The DESG is a committee with the aim of making Disability equality a reality at UCL. Anyone who wants to help with this mission can apply to join the group. 

Role of the Co-chair  

To apply for this role, lived experience of disability is required. 

Key duties 
  • Sets the strategic direction for the group, with the other Chairs 
  • Ensures that an evidence based and data driven annual action plan which supports the UCL Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Strategic approach is in place and is delivered
  • Chairs alternate Disability Equality Steering Group (DESG) meetings, ensuring the group’s work is strategic and evidence based 
  • Raises the profile of disability equity work at UCL.
  • Meets with the other Chairs outside meetings to share ideas and discuss planning and manage the workload, including associated administrative tasks 
  • Works in partnership with the Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Team in planning meetings and events 
  • Attends the Inclusion Forum once a term 
  • Proactively meets and plans events, and where possible, with other equality group Chairs to ensure an intersectional and inclusive approach
  • Represents their equality group at internal and external meetings 
  • Manages the Enable budget in consultation with DESG
  • Reports back progress to the wider disability community (Enable) and wider UCL community 
  • Reports progress on the disability equity agenda to the UCL EDI Committee

Expressions of interest will be circulated to members of DESG after the submission deadline has passed for voting to begin.
