This week, RIGE Communications Officer Flavie talks us through the new season of UCL’s Sustainable Development Goals podcast, an oar-some joke, and her cheerful past.

What is your role and what does it involve?

I’m the Communications Officer in UCL Research Innovation and Global Engagement (RIGE). I  work on the comms and social media within UCL Public Policy, UCL Grand Challenges, UCL Research and the UCL Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Initiative. 

How long have you been at UCL and what was your previous role?

I’ve been at UCL for nearly 2 years. My previous role was Internal Communications Officer at Age UK. 

What working achievement or initiative are you most proud of?

The Unlocking the SDGs - A Blueprint for the Future podcast. I really enjoyed learning from academics at UCL and beyond; it’s good to hear their thoughts on how the world can achieve the UN 2023 Sustainable Development Goals. Season 3 is out now!

Tell us about a project you are working on now which is top of your to-do list

UCL Public Policy and UCL Grand Challenges have lots of events coming up in 2025. I’m excited to see it all come together and for next steps. 

What is your favourite album, film and novel?

Album: A tie between Limp Bizkit’s Chocolate Starfish and the Hotdog Flavoured Water, The Black Keys’ El Camino and Kendrick Lemar’s Good Kid Maad City.

Film: Death Becomes Her and Monsters University.

Novel: Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn.

What is your favourite joke (pre-watershed)?

Why are pirates so cool?

Because they arrrrrr.....

Who would be your dream dinner guests?

Dave Chappelle, Alan Carr, Sarah Millican, Madame Joyce (podcaster), The Receipts podcast and 2Pac.

What advice would you give your younger self?

’Try your best’... and ’use your student discount more’!

What would it surprise people to know about you?

I used to be a cheerleader!
