What is your role and what does it involve?
I am a Liaison and Recruitment Officer in the Student Recruitment team. We are responsible for a wide range of activities that aim to engage and attract a diverse cohort of students from around the world. I currently focus on our incoming fee-paying Study Abroad programme which involves partner liaison with a number of institutions and organisations (mainly from the US) and occasionally involves travel out to the US as well. Day-to-day my activities can vary from drafting legal agreements, hosting student facing webinars, showing partners around campus and everything in between! How long have you been at UCL and what was your previous role?
I am coming up to my 3-year anniversary (time flies!) at UCL. Previously I worked also in Student Recruitment at SOAS University of London, which I transitioned into after completing my undergraduate degree there in International Relations. What working achievement or initiative are you most proud of?
Back in late 2022, I helped to launch UCL’s TikTok page after realising there was a gap in the market for short-form content that would appeal to the younger demographic and capitalise on trends at the time. This involved working with our Social Media team to devise a content strategy and making some of our first videos on the page. Although it was completely outside of my job role, I absolutely loved the creative freedom I was given to create videos that I knew would appeal to students interested in studying at UCL on TikTok and help break into a space that has already been capitalised on by other institutions.Tell us about a project you are working on now which is top of your to-do list
Currently I am working to help organise a series of virtual Offer Holder events that will be taking place in the Spring until the Summer, as well as drafting up a number of affiliate agreements to send to our partner universities. What is your favourite album, film and novel?
Album : This is a tough one because it can change depending on my mood. I am a musical theatre fiend and so the Hamilton soundtrack is a no-skip favourite, but if I had to pick another it would Because the Internet by Childish Gambino.Film : I have to say I don’t watch nearly as many films as I do TV shows, but my favourite film of all time is Lion with Dev Patel (never fails to make me cry).
Novel : My teenage self would have to say The Hunger Games trilogy - I’m currently reading the prequel books and really enjoying them.
What is your favourite joke (pre-watershed)?
Dad, when he puts the car in reverse: "Ah, this takes me back."Who would be your dream dinner guests?
Adam Scott, Britt Lower, Ben Stiller, Tramell Tillman and the rest of the cast of Severance. I’ll be using it as an opportunity to find out what happens in Season 3.What advice would you give your younger self?
One quote that always sticks with me is ’Everything will be okay in the end. If it’s not okay, it’s not the end.’What would it surprise people to know about you?
I’m a freelance photographer! I’ve had a camera in my hand taking photos since my dad got me my first digital camera as a child but have only started professionally in the last couple of years. I love a bit of everything, covering events, travel photography, and have had the privilege of capturing a number of small weddings over the past couple of years. My gear of choice is Fujifilm, and I absolutely love having photography as a creative outlet in my spare time. What is your favourite place?
Portugal! I’ve been on holiday to Lisbon, Madeira and Porto now, and the country truly has a charm that I haven’t felt replicated anywhere else. One place that is on my bucket list to visit is Japan, which I hope to get to visit in the next couple of years.- University College London, Gower Street, London, WC1E 6BT (0) 20 7679 2000
