Simon Cane appointed Director of Public and Cultural Engagement at UCL
UCL is pleased to announce the appointment of Simon Cane as the new Director of Public and Cultural Engagement. Simon joins UCL from his role as Deputy Director at Birmingham Museums Trust (BMT). Simon originally trained as a conservator before moving into wider collections management and leadership roles in local authority and trust museums. He is a keen advocate of public engagement particularly around bridging arts, humanities and sciences. He was the lead for Birmingham on the Staffordshire Hoard project that broke new ground in communicating conservation and research in UK archaeology and was a member of the advisory panel for the AHRC/EPSRC funded Heritage Science Research Programme. His research interests include ethics, cultural value and iconoclasm and he participated in the AHRC funded Iconoclasms Network and co-authored a chapter in the resulting publication 'Striking Images, Iconoclasms Past and Present'.
