Seven questions with... Abdelkawy Abdou

This week we meet first-year PhD candidate Abdel, who is President of The UCL Review. Here, he shares some amazing spots for views of the London Skyline - both on campus and beyond - plus where to catch a sighting of roaming peacocks. What are you studying, why are you interested in this subject and what do you plan to do in the future?. I'm doing a PhD at the Bartlett School of Construction and Project Management related to increasing digitisation of buildings and their management. This area particularly interests me because it sheds light on the ordinarily unseen complexity that goes into ensuring buildings work properly for us but also the inefficiency that this can lead to. Carbon emissions from operating buildings account for nearly 30% of global emissions - by researching the effect new technology can have on increasing the efficiency of building processes, I hope I can contribute to the future reduction of this figure. What is the most interesting thing you've done, seen or got involved with while at UCL?.
