This June, UCL is celebrating the annual lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer Pride Month. Pride Month is an opportunity to celebrate LGBTQ+ communities and culture, and to recognise the still-ongoing work to achieve equity and inclusion and to protect LGBTQ+ rights in the UK and across the globe.
UCL is proud to be home to a dynamic community of LGBTQ+ students, and we are committed to supporting and empowering all students to feel confident embracing their true selves and celebrating their unique identities.
There are a number of UCL-wide student networks which you can join to get involved with the LGBTQ+ communities on campus and beyond.
UCL LGBTQ+ Network
The Student Union’s LGBTQ+ Student Network is a group run by and for students. The Network aims to support lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, and/or any other marginalised gender or sexual identities, including asexual, queer, and intersex students. The network hosts a variety of events for LGBTQ+ students, including quiz nights, crafting, and parties. It also provides students with advice and information, and campaigns for LGBTQ+ issues. It is a place for LGBTQ+ students to meet like-minded individuals, and works closely with societies and charities from UCL and the wider community to run social events and provide volunteering opportunities.
Danilo Paganelli, one of the SU’s Co-LGBTQ+ Officers, says: "The LGBTQ+ Network is a fun, welcoming and relaxed space and I highly recommend that you come along to our events if you identify as LGBTQ+! If you have any questions at all, please don’t hesitate to reach out - we are always very happy to help and to welcome you to our supportive kind network!"
The LGBTQ+ Network’s page on the UCL Student Union website offers a wide range of resources, from links to available support, to community events, nightlife, and more.
Trans* Students’ Network
The Trans* Students’ Network is a group for all students who self-define as Trans*, and every identity that falls under the ’trans’ umbrella. The network is a safe space for Trans* students to meet people who share similar experiences, and to challenge and campaign against discrimination, oppression and inequality faced by themselves or others. To find out more, and see the full list of the Trans* Students’ Network’s events, please join the network.
