Former Poet Laureate Sir Andrew Motion and pianist Ian Buckle will appear at the University of Leeds to give a special performance celebrating the poems of Philip Larkin.
The 'Poems of Philip Larkin and music of the time' will include readings by Sir Andrew of some of Larkin's best-known work interspersed with music by noted 20th-century composers including Coates, Rubbra, Bridge, Britten, Ireland and Fitkin. The concert will take place on Friday 28 January 2011 at 7.30pm in the Clothworkers' Centenary Concert Hall in the University's School of Music. Tickets are priced £20. This concert is part of the School of Music's International Concert Series 2010-2011, which brings together an international programme of performers from across Europe, the USA and the Indian sub-continent. Andrew Motion was Poet Laureate from 1999 until 2009. He was knighted for his services to literature in 2009. In 1994 his biography of Philip Larkin was awarded the Whitbread Prize for Biography, and short-listed for the NCR Award.
