New Vice-Provost (Education and Student Experience) joins UCL

Professor Kathleen Armour, a leading expert in learning and teaching, has joined UCL as its new Vice-Provost (Education and Student Experience).

Previously Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Education) at the University of Birmingham, Professor Kathleen Armour has extensive experience of leadership and research in education and professional learning. She takes up a crucial role at UCL with responsibility for education leadership, the quality of student experience and planning for future possibilities in lifelong education.

In her previous role, she overseed all aspects of undergraduate and postgraduate education and chaired the University Education Committee. She was also academic lead for the university’s Higher Education Futures Institute, which takes an innovative approach to supporting the career-long development of academic and professional staff who teach and support student learning.

She has also previously held posts at Brunel and Loughborough Universities, joining Birmingham in 2010. She became Head of the newly created School of Sport, Exercise and Rehabilitation Sciences in 2012, before being appointed to her role at the University of Birmingham in 2016. Her educational qualifications include an MA in Education at the Institute of Education, now part of UCL.

Her research and teaching have focused on bridging the gaps between theory/research and educational practice. She was a REF 2014 panellist, has contributed to an impact case study for REF 2021, and was a main panellist for the TEF subject pilots. She contributes regularly to national discussions about higher education, and has built strong international connections through the Universitas 21 network.
