King’s Birthday Honours 2023

The University celebrates colleagues and alumni who have been recognised in the 2023 King's Birthday Honours The University of Glasgow is delighted that colleagues and alumni have been recognised for their world changing research and work in the 2023 King's Birthday Honours. His Majesty recognised a number of people from across the University's global community, from a number of disciplines and professions. They include Professor Thomas Evans, Professor of Molecular Biology, who received a CBE for services to Healthcare during Covid-19 and Professor Donald McMillan, Professor of Surgical Science, who received an OBE for services to cancer research. Professor Thomas Evans said: "I am delighted and surprised to receive notice of this honour in recognition of my work in healthcare during the COVID-19 pandemic. I am enormously grateful to many colleagues across Scotland who all worked so hard to ensure we could provide the best possible clinical and scientific advice during that period." Professor Donald McMillan said: "I am happy and surprised to receive this honour and I am grateful to my excellent collaborators and students over the years who have made my research productive." Other University of Glasgow alumni recognised in this year's list include: - Professor Ian Andrew Greer (MBChB 1980), Vice-Chancellor, Queen's University Belfast. KBE for services to Education and to the Economy Jacqueline Baillie (Diploma in Housing Studies, 1994), Deputy Leader of the Scottish Labour Party.
