Have your say on UCL’s REF2029 Code of Practice

The staff consultation on our draft Code of Practice for REF2029 is now open for comment and feedback for everyone with a staff contract involved in UCL research. The deadline is 27 February 2026 - find out more.

A REF Code of Practice sets out how a higher education institution will make key decisions about its submission to the REF exercise, including which staff contracts will be counted in the measure of the scale of its research activity and selecting outputs and case studies for submission. Guiding principles about transparency, robustness and equalities, inclusion and diversity considerations are part of its scope.

All research institutions submitting to REF2029 are required to have a Code of Practice and to consult on it with their research community, including but not restricted to academics, technicians and research managers.

The deadline for feedback on the draft is 27 February 2026. Read more about our proposed approach, look at the draft text and access the feedback form on our SharePoint page: REF Code of Practice.
