UCL’s Antisemitism Education Action Plan Committee is seeking Jewish members of staff to take part in focus groups in October to help ensure that education about antisemitism reflects their experiences.
The focus groups will take place on 11 October 3.30-5pm and 13 October 3.30-5pm. To find out more or to confirm attendance at one of the groups, please email Abigail Smith.
The sessions will be led by Professor Sasha Roseneil, Pro-Provost (Equity and Inclusion) and chair of the committee, and Professor Shirli Gilbert, Professor of Modern Jewish History in the Department of Hebrew and Jewish Studies. Participants will be given an overview of the committee’s work to understand the types of antisemitism experienced at UCL, and asked to share their views on their own experiences at UCL and what a plan to improve awareness and understanding of antisemitism should include.
The Antisemitism Education Action Plan Committee was instituted at the recommendation of Academic Board and reflects awareness that antisemitism is poorly understood and under-reported at UCL. It includes a range of internal and external expertise, including representation from UCL’s Jewish Society, the Community Security Trust, the Board of Deputies and the Birkbeck Institute for the Study of Antisemitism. It has already gathered evidence of student experiences of antisemitism, and wishes to complement this with information about staff experiences. The committee is due to report in December with recommendations on how to embed education about antisemitism at UCL.
