End of year message from the Bicentennial Programme Director

Lucy Briggs, UCL200 Programme Director, reflects on a productive year for the UCL200 team.

As 2024 draws to a close, I want to extend my thanks to all colleagues, students and wider members of the UCL community who have engaged with the UCL200 team throughout the year.

Your enthusiasm, collaboration and commitment have been invaluable as we together, begin to bring the UCL200 programme to life. As a community, we are laying the groundwork for a diverse engaging programme of activities and events that reflect our core values; embrace our entrepreneurial spirit, inspire future leaders, and contribute to a world where knowledge, research and innovation serves as a force for positive good. We are excited to continue building on this momentum as we look ahead to 2025 and beyond!

This year has been a productive and inspiring one, marked by several key milestones. We have expanded our core team strengthening our capacity to deliver our ambitious goals, enjoyed connecting with the UCL community through workshops across faculties and professional services and our regular drop-in sessions , and actively engaged with our vibrant student body at the Community Fair during Welcome Week. A highlight has been the successful launch of the UCL200 framework for bicentennial activities which, alongside the invaluable contributions of our Faculty Champions , has set the stage for what is shaping up to be an exciting and varied programme of activities and events to celebrate our bicentenary. Together with our core projects with outputs such as the UCL200 Exhibition , UCL200 Publications and UCL200 Public Art, there is a lot to be excited for!

Please do submit your planned bicentennial activities via the bicentennial activity submission form by 17 December to ensure they’re considered in the programme’s development. We also encourage you to share any wider UCL200 ideas or considerations with the team via UCL200@ucl.ac.uk or via this UCL200 ideas form. Your input is crucial in shaping celebrations that reflect our diverse community and inspires the next 200 years of impact.

I am also delighted to announce the launch of the UCL200 Community Network Teams group  a dedicated space for collaboration, updates, resources, and ongoing conversations with the UCL community as we approach bicentenary. Please do join us to stay connected and contribute to this milestone initiative, and share with colleagues - our goal is to engage as much of the UCL community as possible in the programme’s development.

On behalf of the entire UCL200 team, thank you again for your contributions. We hope you have a great break, and we look forward to seeing you in 2025.

All best wishes,
Lucy Briggs
