Last month UCL’s Education Committee approved our first Personal Academic Tutoring Policy.

The purpose of personal academic tutoring at UCL is to guide and support you in your academic, personal and professional development during your time at university.

The Personal Tutor Review we carried out last year recommended introducing a new policy.

Now, following extensive consultation with the UCL community, we will be introducing the new policy (available to read as a PDF or Word document ) for the beginning of the 2025/26 academic year.

We have designed the policy with the support of the Department Tutor Network and the input of the 17 Departments participating in the Personal Academic Tutoring Pilot run by our Higher Education Development & Support Institute (HEDS).

What does this mean for you?

We have given significant thought to developing a policy that can effectively be implemented across UCL, that is based on existing good practice and promotes what you can expect from personal academic tutoring as a taught student here.

Starting this summer, the staff who support you will receive updated training and support to align with the new policy. You can expect to hear more this autumn.

In the meantime, you can read an overview of recent progress around UCL-wide education and student experience initiatives.
