Arts Society plan to follow successful events with more. The Arts Society are planning artists' talks, exhibitions and film screenings for the summer term after a successful programme of events this term. The society held an artist's talk with Turner Prize nominee Vong Phaophanit and Sussex alumna Claire Oboussier. Their work, 'All that's solid melts into air (Karl Marx)' (2006, Tate Collection) was featured in an exhibition, The Contemporary Eye, that the society curated on campus. The show was a celebration of Sussex's 50th anniversary and focused on different generations of artists connected to the University. The Contemporary Eye, which featured painting, film and sculpture by 16 artists, explored the process of perception. The exhibition investigated notions of national identity and diaspora, sexuality and sight as a political act.
