Sussex physicist named among the most influential scientific minds. An academic from the University of Sussex has been named on a prestigious research institute's list of the world's most influential scientific minds. Dr Jonathan Loveday , Reader in Astronomy, is one of the 3,200 names on the Research Institute Thomson Reuters compendium of science opinion-formers. The report names researchers, across 21 fields of scientific research, whose papers were most highly cited by fellow scientists between 2002 and 2012. The space science field lists 106 researchers from around the world; Dr Loveday is one of only seven in that field to come from a UK university. Dr Loveday said: "It is an honour to appear on the Thomson Reuters list of highly cited researchers for 2014. I am fortunate to have worked with many superb colleagues, particular on the Sloan Digital Sky Survey." This survey has created the most detailed three-dimensional maps of the Universe ever made, with deep multi-colour images of one-third of the sky, and spectra for more than 3 million astronomical objects.
