Stoke Damerel Project

A group of Year 2 and 3 BA (Hons) Architecture students have been working with Year 10 pupils from Stoke Damerel Community College to re-imagine their school environment. The collaboration forms part of a major design project that enables undergraduate students to deal with real life projects whilst also learning about the valuable input of a resident community. This year's project is based in Stoke Dameral Community College and aims to engage the school community throughout the design process, from initial consultation through to the presentation of design ideas. The project started in earnest with two site visits in November. The initial visit focused on surveying the site and gathering vital information, whilst the second visit saw the students running a model-making workshop with year 10 pupils. The workshop provided the perfect opportunity for free flowing conversation and consultation within small groups and generated discussions about the pupils’ experiences of their learning spaces, creational spaces, and their college’s links to the community. Furthermore it enabled brainstorming with the college students on ideas and scenarios that they felt were vital to the development of their learning experiences.
