Scientist featured in Canadian documentary

University of Plymouth lecturer Jason Hall Spencer was chosen to be featured in the documentary because of his work co-ordinating the pioneering use of volcanic CO2 vents to study the ecosystem effects of ocean acidification. The Changing Sea is the last in a series, One Ocean , made by the Canadian Broadcasting Company (CBC), examining how the sea holds the key to the balance of life on the planet. Hall Spencer’s work is used to illustrate how the ocean’s chemistry is being compromised by increased acidity, less oxygen and warming temperatures. The programme has been nominated for an award in the Marine Earth Sciences Category of the Blue Ocean Film Festival, which will take place in Monterey, California from 24-29 August. The Festival is a global film festival and conservation summit for underwater filmmakers and marine researchers. Hall Spencer said; “I am delighted that the film has received recognition from the underwater filming community in this way. I hope that this will get the message out to a wider audience about what is happening in our oceans.
