Over £5.2m donated to the University of Glasgow Scholarships Fund
The University of Glasgow Scholarships Fund has received over £5.2m in donations since it was launched in 2007 thanks to the support of alumni and friends of the university. The money raised has enabled the university to provide opportunities to bright undergraduate students facing financial hardship and to attract the very best postgraduate students internationally. One of the scholarship recipients is mature student Mark Alexander: "Without the scholarship, I would have had to work longer hours in my part-time job which would have restricted my time to study and, ultimately, would have impacted my results. Time is tight enough with a 16 hour a week job, up to four hours a day travelling to university and spending time with my wife and two children. Being awarded a scholarship could make the difference between students passing their degree or dropping out due to financial pressures." The Principal and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Glasgow, Professor Anton Muscatelli, praised the fundraising efforts to date and said that he would like to see the university provide even more scholarships to students who want to study at Glasgow: "I am extremely proud to have seen our scholarship funding grow over the past five years and I would like to thank and acknowledge all those who have supported the university, and our students, in this special way. It is so important to be able to provide opportunities for talented individuals who may otherwise have found it hard to study with us here at the University of Glasgow.
