Curiouser and Curiouser: Arts festival of the strange and unusual
All that is strange and unusual in the worlds of performance, vision and sound, will be brought together in a fascinating fortnight of events at the University of Sheffield this Spring. The `Curious´ Festival will offer a selection of engaging workshops and illuminating performances to fuel the public´s curiosity and encourage them to explore the unfamiliar. The Festival, which takes place between 12 and 25 April 2010, will showcase the work and activities carried out by the University´s Faculty of Arts and Humanities and show the impact this work has on the cultural life of the city, the region and further afield. The programme is varied for a wide-range of audiences with events taking a number of different formats from workshops and exhibitions to concerts and film-screenings. Some of the events included in the programme are: An exhibition exploring the idea of the 18th Century `Cabinet of Curiosities. This photographic display, which will take place on the Moor in the city centre, will provide an insight into this classic notion which was associated with collecting, curiosity and the desire to bring diverse knowledge into a single compact space. The cabinet and its contents will also invite viewers to think about the collections and displays that many of us have in our homes today and share these thoughts on the project´s blog.
