Confucius Institute launches language classes as Year of the Dragon begins
The Confucius Institute at the University of Glasgow has kicked off the Chinese Year of the Dragon by commencing language classes in Mandarin. The level one course is designed for adult beginners of Chinese and introduces students to the basic features of the Chinese language, including: the pronunciation of the four tones, the different components of Chinese characters, and the main sentence structures. By the end of the 10-week course students will be able to communicate in simple Chinese, read at least 30 characters and write some simple sentences. Students can then progress to level two classes.
