Christmas Gala Concert
The acclaimed mezzo-soprano Juliette Pochin joins the Ten Tors Orchestra and Choir as they return to Tavistock’s St Eustachius Church for their popular Christmas Gala Concert on Saturday 19 December at 7:30pm. Juliette has had a hugely varied and successful career as singer, composer, arranger and record producer. Her critically acclaimed album Venezi features the special arrangement of Vivaldi’s Winter included in this concert, which is the finale of the Peninsula Arts music programme for 2009. Conducted by Simon Ible, the concert will commence with the 1st movement from Symphony No.25 in G minor by Mozart, widely known as the opening music in Miloš Forman's film Amadeus. It is a varied programme and alongside pieces by Puccini, Handel, German, and Saint-Seans, Juliette will also be singing Simon’s arrangement of Caccini’s Ave Maria. The concert concludes with the Emperor Waltz by Strauss. This famous waltz was intended as a 'toast of friendship' made by Austrian emperor Franz Josef on the occasion of his visit to the German Kaiser.
