About the job:

The School of Biological Sciences together with The Institute for Global Food Security (IGFS) at Queen’s University Belfast, is currently seeking to appoint an exceptional academic to the post of Lecturer (Education) in Agricultural Science.

The successful appointee will undertake significant teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels in Agriculture Science; contribute to the design, organisation and delivery of teaching activities; engage in scholarly activity and help in the development of the School’s educational portfolio.

The School of Biological Sciences (SBS) together with The Institute for Global Food Security (IGFS) provide and facilitate a vibrant and integrated research environment, conducting globally competitive and sustainable research that addresses major challenges and develops solutions to many of the global challenges that we face today. In the most recent Research Exercise Framework (REF2021) we are ranked No 1 in the UK for Agriculture, Food & Veterinary Sciences with 94% of research in these areas "world-leading" or "internationally excellent".

This appointment will contribute directly to the delivery of a range of new undergraduate courses, including BSc Agricultural Science, BSc Agricultural Science with Professional Studies, with student intake planned for September 2026. The programmes have been developed in response to clear demand from industry, government and key stakeholders and will address the need for high calibre graduates across the sector.

About the Person:

The successful candidate must have, and your application should clearly demonstrate that you meet the following essential criteria:

  • Honours degree or equivalent in Agricultural Science or an area relevant to the job purpose.
  • PhD or equivalent in an area relevant to the job purpose.
  • Evidence of continuing professional development.
  • Evidence of ability to publish.
  • Recent relevant experience of lecturing/teaching commensurate with stage of career and assessing at University level in Agricultural Science, or a closely related subject.
  • Experience of designing course materials and planning and organising the delivery and assessment of teaching.
  • Experience of developing and delivering innovative methods of teaching and assessment.
  • Evidence of using innovative teaching methods and digital platforms.
  • Evidence of provision of pastoral care for students.
  • Experience of contribution to broader management and administrative processes.
  • Evidence of administrative experience appropriate to the position of lecturer (education) commensurate with stage of career.
