Sussex undergraduate shortlisted in national journalism competition

Sussex undergraduate shortlisted in national journalism competition. An International Development student from the University of Sussex has made it through to the finals of a national journalism competition, organised by the Guardian . Stevie Greenleaf, who has just completed the second year of her undergraduate degree, is one of 12 finalists in the running to win the Guardian International Development Journalism Competition 2013 . The competition, now in its 6th year, challenges entrants to write a 650-1,000 word feature on an aspect of global poverty that is overlooked or underrepresented in the media. It is open to both professional and non-professional journalists, and is run in partnership with a range of UK-based international NGOs, including UNICEF and WaterAid. Stevie's article, entitled 'A war within war' , examines the widespread issue of sexual violence as a war crime in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), in central Africa. It was shortlisted from over 500 features before making it through to the top 12 from a longlist of around 40 entrants.
