Putting Net Zero into Action: addressing the implementation gap

SCI Honorary Researcher Maria Sharmina joined a panel of experts at the UKERC Research Conference ’Putting Net Zero into Action: addressing the implementation gap’, and gave a talk about the government’s ongoing Net Zero Society project

The conference unpacked the UK Net Zero Strategy and the gap that remains between ambition and action, and covered the global energy crisis, the role of local government in enabling decarbonisation and unlocking net-zero innovation.

In particular, Maria took part in the session "Low Energy Demand: opportunities for resilience and adaptation in the face of changing climates", chaired by Professor Jillian Anable. The panel reflected on what opportunity a Low Energy Demand approach represents, why we are not making the most of this opportunity, how we could start to bridge this gap, who should be taking action for this to happen.

The agenda covered many interesting and pertinent topics such as the global energy crisis, the role of local government in enabling decarbonisation and unlocking net-zero innovation. In the coming weeks UKERC will be sharing all of the sessions online.
