On Sunday 6 October, over 100 alumni, students, and staff ran the Principality Cardiff Half Marathon to raise funds for Cardiff University research.
#TeamCardiff runners completed the 13.1 miles to fundraise towards neuroscience and mental health, and cancer research.
So far, with Gift Aid the team has raised an incredible £34,000, which will support the next generation of cancer and neuroscience researchers. Their efforts will help to accelerate discoveries and develop treatments for a range of cancers, Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, ADHD, depression, and schizophrenia.
Many #TeamCardiff runners had personal motivations for taking on the Half Marathon and were fundraising in celebration or memory of loved ones.
On the day, Vice Chancellor Professor Wendy Larner came to meet some of the #TeamCardiff runners and wish them luck for the race ahead.
Despite the damp weather, runners were cheered on by thousands of spectators and received an extra boost at Mile 8 at the #TeamCardiff cheer station. Supporters, family, friends, Dylan the Dragon, and Cardiff University Brass Band came together to create a brilliant atmosphere and give our runners the encouragement needed to tackle the final 5 miles to the finish line.

After the race, Physiotherapy students from the School of Healthcare Sciences provided free post-race massages to exhausted runners.
We’re so grateful to all’our #TeamCardiff runners as well as the volunteers who made it such a fantastic event. Diolch.
