Graphene NOWNANO CDT alumnus, Vicente Orts Mercadillo recently took part in the Pint of Science Festival at the Old Abbey Taphouse in Manchester, giving a talk on progress in graphene research. Pint of Science is a worldwide science festival which brings researchers to your local pub to share their scientific discoveries with you .
Vicente recently graduated from the CDT programme and is now a Senior Scientist with Vector Homes in Manchester. It is now almost 20 years since graphene was first isolated and Vicente’s talk focused on the import role that government policy, devolution, and public engagement will have in shaping the future of graphene and, more widely, 2D materials research.
"The pint of science event was a fantastic opportunity to share some of the exciting work from graphene start-ups at The University of Manchester. Government grants and R&D funding are really important for ambitious new companies, so it was great to show the public what amazing new technologies they are funding!"
