The Innovation in Sport event, part of Sport@Bath, takes place on Tuesday 6 June.

The University of Bath will host a public event on Tuesday 6 June to showcase its sports-related activities, research, and successes.

Olympians, student sports stars, researchers and wider members of the University of Bath community will come together for a public event in early June focused on Innovation in Sport.

From successive medals at Olympic and Winter Olympic Games, to major changes to professional sport based on Bath research, the University has established itself as one of the leading institutions for sports nationally and internationally.

The event in June will be an opportunity to hear more from the people behind those success stories, including Olympic swimming sensation and University sports scholar, Tom Dean. Tom won two historic Gold medals at the Tokyo Olympics in 2021 and will explain how this was made possible by the set-up at Bath. It will also be a chance to hear from researchers who have worked with some of the biggest clubs and governing bodies to develop applied sports solutions, including Prof Sean Cumming. Sean has pioneered a new approach to grouping youth players in academy settings according to their biological maturity, known as biobanding. Attendees will also hear from Dr Steffi Colyer who has been working with British Bobsleigh and Skeleton and the University’s Centre for the Analysis of Motion, Entertainment Research & Applications (CAMERA) to test how Hollywood-style motion capture technology can be used to help Winter athletes improve ; and from Prof Javier Gonzalez, who has worked with the cycling team Ineos Grenadiers on enhancing nutrition and sports performance ( listen to Javier on the Zoe podcast ).

Commenting in advance of the event, Director of Sport Stephen Baddeley said: -There are multiple examples of how sports innovation and partnership working has helped our student and Team Bath athletes and our researchers to achieve the impacts they have. This event is a showcase of that, plus a real opportunity for prospective partners to learn more and collaborate with us.-
