A new collaborative project called HE+ has been developed by the University of Cambridge and is being piloted by consortiums in several parts of the UK, including Herefordshire and west Worcestershire.
The Hereford consortium, led by Hereford Sixth Form College , includes: John Masefield High School , Lady Hawkins’ School , The Hereford Academy , The Chase Technology College and Dyson Perrins Church of England Academy.
The HE+ project enables students, who have the academic potential, to take part in extension classes, masterclasses and workshops at Hereford Sixth Form College and at Christ’s College, Cambridge.
Despite the difficult travelling conditions almost 200 students from across the two counties made it to the HE+ launch at Hereford Sixth Form College, which took place on 28th January 2013.
There was real excitement amongst the students and even more so when Paula Stirling, Director of Admissions, Christ’s College Cambridge, was beamed through live on screen to directly address them saying, "The HE+ scheme has great promise in bringing together Herefordshire’s brightest students and encourages you to challenge yourselves and each other. My Christ’s College colleagues and I are looking forward to working with you and your teachers over the next year."
