Each talk will focus on a different instrument, illustrated through performances by guests from the University of Manchester’s Music Department and the Royal Northern College of Music (RNCM) .The erhu
The first talk will focus on the historical development of the erhu. We will explore how the instrument is made and learn about its diverse repertoire since the early 20th century.Guest: Xinjie Yang (MA Conducting, RNCM)

The violin
The second talk is on the violin. It examines the transmission of violin culture from Europe to China. We will discuss how the violin influenced Chinese musical development and explore various compositions written over the last century.Guest: Ziluo Huang (PhD Musicology student, University of Manchester)

The guzheng
The last instrument in the series is the guzheng. The talk will introduce composing for the guzheng.
