In all, 34 athletes, coaches and sports staff with links to the University will participate at the Games.
Of this number, 33 are part of the Scotland squad, while one features for the Isle of Man.
The athletes competing hope to add to the 25 medals won at previous Commonwealth Games by competitors with links to the University.
The Games take place between 3 - 14 October 2010. After Delhi, the next Commonwealth Games will take place in Glasgow in 2014.
The University has always enjoyed a strong representation at Commonwealth Games but this is our largest contingent to date, which is marvellous and testimony to our commitment to performance sport.

Swimming for success
In swimming, five University Swim Team members join the 21-strong Scottish squad.
They include Kris Gilchrist, who won a relay medal as part of the 2006 Commonwealth Games team and will compete in the men’s 100m breaststroke, 200m breaststroke and 4x100m medley relay events.
The other Edinburgh swimmers taking part are:
Chris Jones, Head of Performance Swimming at the University, will be coach for the Scotland Swim Team at the Games.
Aiming high
In archery, five University archers represent Scotland. Leading the group is Emma Downie, the current British champion in the ladies’ recurve event.
Ladies qualifiers include Claudine Jennings and Susan Maitland, a staff member at the School of Chemistry who trains with the Edinburgh alumni club.
On the men’s side, Tim Keppie and Alistair Whittingham have both qualified. Alistair is both an athlete and coach, and serves as Director of Archery Performance for the university.
Hockey stars
More University athletes are found on the hockey pitch.
Graduates Alistair McGregor and Stephen Dick - who have more than 100 Scottish caps between them - are joined in the men’s hockey side by Graham Moodie, the player-coach of the University First
Eugene Connolly, who recently retired from the University staff, is Team Manager for the men’s team.
On the women’s side, Becky Merchant, who has just completed the 4th year of a degree in Neuroscience, is part of the women’s squad and competes in her first games. Student Morag McLellan, who is studying sports science, also takes part.
Graduates Alison Bell, Linda Clement, Holly Cram and Samantha Judge have also been selected.

Three members of the University’s Fitness Assessment and Sports Injury Clinic (
’s medical director, is Head Physiotherapist for Scotland's team. Ms Thomson also worked with the Scotland team during the Commonwealth Games in Melbourne 2006 and Manchester 2002.
Alastair Nicol,
’s High Performance Sport service, is Team Physio.
The physiotherapists will treat more than 100 athletes representing Scotland in a range of sports, from badminton to boxing.
