A winning streak for sport

Our sports teams have had some great successes so far in the season with teams reaching cup finals, gaining promotions and achieving some amazing results.

Our Men’s Rugby’s 2nd team, Men’s Badminton, Women’s Fencing and Men’s Fencing teams have reached the cup final in their BUCS (British Universities & Colleges Sport) league (the national governing body for UK university sport). Most of the finals are taking place in the first week of the holidays with the Men’s Rugby final taking place in the summer term at the stadium of the London Wasps professional rugby team.

Our Women’s Rugby team celebrating their league win

Our Men’s Football 2nd, Women’s Rugby, Men’s Tennis, Women’s Tennis and both of our Women’s Hockey teams all won their league and have been promoted with the Women’s Hockey 1st team remaining unbeaten this season!

Additionally, our Men’s Fencing, Men’s Hockey’s 2nd and Netball 2nd team are awaiting results from their league to see if they’ll be promoted too. After the final games of the season are played on Wednesday 23rd March we’ll know if these teams are moving up too.

Scott Sheridan, Students’ Union Activities Officer (left), said, "It’s great to see so many teams doing well, it is a tribute to the hard work of student committee members, Students’ Union and sports staff as well as the individual team members. We look forward to seeing where we end up in the end of year BUCS rankings".

A huge congratulations from the Students’ Union to these teams and all of our clubs who have taken part in a variety of training sessions, competitions, activities and trips this term. You can find out more about fixtures and results and our sports clubs online.

Next term will feature men’s and women’s cricket matches as well as Varsity where a variety of our clubs take on their University of Brighton counterparts in our annual grudge match!
