Postdoctoral Scientist - Protein Biochemistry & Structural Biology

Target Discovery Institute, NDM Research Building, Roosevelt Drive, Headington, Oxford, OX3 7FZ PREVIOUS APPLICANTS NEED NOT APPLY We are seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Scientist to join the Target Discovery Institute, at the Nuffield Department of Medicine. You will join us to work on an exciting research project with focus on the structural and functional exploration of proteins involved in ubiquitin and RNA metabolism (e.g. E3 ligases, DUBs, deaminases), and the design, identification and characterization of first-in-class chemical ligands.

The role will involve establishing efficient expression and purification systems for target proteins. You will develop biochemical assays and study the interaction between proteins and first-in-class small molecule ligands to establish the SAR (structure activity relationship) to inform medicinal chemistry. You will supervise junior and technical staff and coordinate the project with other internal and external partners. This will include progress reports and publishing high quality manuscripts in peer-reviewed journals. Candidates are expected to represent the group at international scientific meetings.

It is essential that you hold a PhD (or near completion) in protein biochemistry and structural biology with an excellent academic track record, including at least one first author publication in an expert journal. You will have experience in protein crystallization and optimization of protein crystals, and extensive experience in cloning and recombinant protein purification using bacterial, insect cell or mammalian host systems. It is essential that you are able to work independently and as part of a team and be able to collaborate with colleagues on a range of diverse projects.

Applications for this vacancy are to be made online and you will be required to upload a supporting statement and CV as part of your online application.
