The "Climate and Agriculture" research group investigates the impact of climate change on agricultural production and evaluate possibilities for adaptation. It monitors greenhouse gas emissions from agriculture and explores mitigation options. In this project, you quantify the impacts of climate change on provisioning and regulating ecosystem services and further elaborate the results for dissemination in the form of climate services. The project is carried out in close collaboration with the National Centre for Climate Services (NCCS, ?url=www.nccs.admin.ch&module=jobs&id=223835" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">?url=www.nccs.admin.ch&module=jobs&id=223835" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">www.nccs.admin.ch).

Description

  • Use crop models to assess the effects of climate change on provisioning ecosystem services (yields of wheat, maize, rape and fodder quality) based on the CH2018 climate scenarios
  • Assess the impacts of climate change on carbon stocks in agricultural soils using the "RothC" model
  • Develop climate services in the form of maps and integrate the results into the web tool FORTE in collaboration with the Swiss Federal Institute for Forest, Snow and Landscape Research WSL
  • Prepare synthesis reports and scientific publications
  • Ensure the contact to the project partners and stakeholders

Requirements

  • University degree with doctorate in environmental sciences, agricultural sciences or related fields of study
  • Experience in the application and development of climate impact models and affinity for data analysis
  • Willingness to collaborate across disciplines, interest in applied agricultural issues
  • Ability to work independently, interest in project management and in representing own work to research partners and stakeholders
  • Knowledge of two official Swiss languages and English
