Research Associate "Climate Adaptation Agriculture"

80%-100% / 8046 Zurich (from 1.1.2026 on: 1725 Posieux FR)

In the Climate and Agriculture research group at Agroscope in Zurich, we investigate the impact of climate change on agricultural production and evaluate possibilities for adaptation. We measure greenhouse gas emissions from agriculture and explore mitigation options. For our Climate Risks and Adaptation team, we are looking for a person with an affinity for applied research and very good methodological skills in ecosystem modelling who would like to develop their research within the team with a longer-term perspective.

Agroscope is the Swiss federal centre of excellence for research in the agriculture and food sector. Its researchers carry out their work at a number of sites in Switzerland. Headquartered in Bern-Liebefeld (as of 2025: Posieux FR), Agroscope is attached to the Swiss Federal Department of Economic Affairs, Education and Research EAER.

Description

  • Process-oriented and statistical modelling of the impacts of climate change on agro-ecosystems with a focus on grasslands
  • Development of scientific bases for the assessment of adaptation options
  • Presentation of results in publications and at conferences, preparation of scientific reports
  • Acquisition of third-party funding and supervision of project staff
  • Ensuring contacts with internal and external research partners

Requirements

  • PhD in the field of agronomy, environmental or natural sciences
  • Proven knowledge of climate change issues
  • Solid background in programming and statistics
  • Experience in the application and development of climate impact models and affinity for data analysis
  • Willingness to collaborate across disciplines, interest in applied agricultural issues
  • Ability to work independently, interest in project management and in representing own work to research partners and stakeholders
  • Knowledge of two official languages and English
