You will join our creative and innovative team working on advanced cyber-security systems as part of the "Fog Protect" (https://fogprotect.eu/) and “CyberKit4SME” (https://cyberkit4sme.eu/) projects.
There is considerable potential for career development, through work such as development of commercial products and services in partnership with industry, consultancy, conceptualising and bidding new projects, leading to a Senior Enterprise Fellow positions and beyond. There are also opportunities to develop your skills through creation of state-of-the-art cyber-security technologies to solve problems for UK and international industry partners such as IBM, Thales, and Nokia.
Your experience of software engineering will be beneficial to help us transform the way cyber-security and risk is managed in complex and adaptive systems. The work is part of our research programme tackling security challenges in industries such as healthcare, manufacturing and beyond.
You will be responsible for the design and development of models and software solutions that validate, demonstrate and prototype outcomes of research. You will create proof-of-concept systems and will need to be flexible, applying your problem-solving skills in new contexts to create good quality software and systems.
To be successful it is essential you have the following:
• Programming in Python, Java or C++
• Experience of system modelling paradigms such as OO, SOA and Cloud
• Experience of agile development methodologies and DevOps
• PhD or an equivalent professional qualifications and experience in computer science, software engineering or a related discipline.
The following would be advantageous:
• Experience of security/risk modelling and management
• Relational data modelling and manipulation using SQL (e.g. PostgreSQL or MySQL)
• Experience of web technologies and REST APIs.
We offer competitive salary, 30 days holiday a year plus bank holidays and up to 6 University closure days, flexible working, and the option to join the USS pension scheme with a 21.1% employer contribution.
This is a full-time post for a period of 12 months, renewable subject to funding. We wish the post to start as soon as possible.
