Chair of Embodied Intelligence

The University of Nottingham are inviting applications for a Chair of Embodied Intelligence to join our growing School of Computer Science and to take on a leadership role within the new interdisciplinary Smart Products Beacon, which explores how leading-edge technologies emerging from Computer Science and Engineering can fundamentally disrupt the nature of products and how they are made. In this brand-new role, you will bring world-class research, leadership and excellence to our School and the wider University. You will make a significant impact on the direction, strategy, objectives and success of the University by influencing and shaping the advancement of Embodied Intelligence within the Computer Sciences.

As Chair of Embodied Intelligence, you will be responsible for research, strategic direction and teaching relating to how digital technologies become embodied within the world, for example as robots, agents or through the Internet of Things. You will also undertake academic leadership and managerial responsibilities within the School and the Smart Products Beacon. Accountable to the Head of School and the Director of Smart Products Beacon, you will possess in-depth knowledge of Embodied Intelligence and enable the development of new knowledge, innovation and understanding in the field. As an established research leader, your reputation in Embodied Intelligence and Smart Products will be recognised both nationally and internationally and you will have a proven track record attracting research funding, transferring results to commercial and practical use, and mentoring both research students and faculty. You should also have a proven ability to plan and lead the delivery of research and teaching programmes and to work across multiple disciplines such as Engineering and Humanities

The Faculty of Science has more than 5000 undergraduates and over 1400 postgraduate students, and comprises of seven Schools, all of whom have achieved an Athena Swan Award.
