Associate Professorship of Economics

The University is seeking to appoint a full-time Associate Professor of Economics to start in September 2020 or as soon as possible thereafter. The University of Oxford uses the grade of Associate Professor for most of its senior academic appointments. This grade is roughly equivalent to Associate Professor in the USA. Associate Professors are eligible for consideration through regular recognition of distinction exercises for award of the title of full Professor.

The post is associated with a Tutorial Fellowship, at Hertford College. Duties will include undertaking independent research and securing funding to support the Department’s research activities, together with teaching and supervision responsibilities for the Department of Economics and the College, and Trustee duties (as a member of the Governing Body) at the College.

Applications are invited from candidates with a completed doctorate in Economics and postdoctoral experience in an academic position. Applicants should be able to demonstrate a high standard of research achievement and potential, and the ability to enthuse and inspire students at both undergraduate and graduate level through tutorials, classes, lectures, and supervision. Applicants should have an interest in promoting a culture of equality and diversity in the workplace.

The Department and College wish to encourage applicants with research and teaching interests in any field of economics. The Department would welcome applicants willing to teach Economic History, Financial Economics or Financial Econometrics, but has teaching needs in all fields.

The College requires postholders to be willing to teach Macroeconomics or Quantitative Economics to undergraduates.

The appointment is for 5 years in the first instance, with reappointment to retirement upon completion of a successful review.

Salary ranges between 48,114 and 64,605 p.a. plus additional benefits including a College Housing Allowance which is currently 9,799 p.a. In cases of particular merit, the Department may make a recommendation to the University for the award of an additional salary supplement above the maximum scale.
