Role Description

The Role
We welcome applications from candidates with a track record as a leader in Critical Systems, from academia or industry. You will collaborate within and outwith the Department, supporting and mentoring early career researchers and postgraduate students, whilst contributing to the academic leadership of the Department. You will focus on leading the development of Critical Systems research and teaching, actively engaging with the wider Department and University to help to create a distinctive and positive working environment that emphasises excellence. Critical Systems research at York is world leading, covering real-time systems, high-integrity systems, autonomous systems and software engineering for critical systems. Critical systems research is supported by the Assuring Autonomy International Programme , which is a £10m investment by Lloyds Register Foundation; and also the Global Initiative for Safe Autonomy, a £35m new facility funded by the University, UKRPIF and partners.

Key requirements:

  • PhD in Computer Science, or a related discipline
  • Outstanding and internationally recognised knowledge of Critical Systems
  • Ability to consistently publish academic work that is recognised as internationally leading
  • Ability to work with external and non-academic organisations for research impact and CPD
  • Substantial publication record in leading peer-reviewed journals
  • Significant and sustained success in accessing research grants and other external funding
  • Self-motivated, dedicated and creative

Salary will be commensurate with experience on the professorial scale, current minimum £64,986
