Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in Accounting

Aston Business School

Aston Business School is one of Europe’s leading business schools, with 78% of its research rated world-leading or internationally excellent by REF 2014. It is accredited by AACSB, AMBA and EQUIS. There is a thriving research culture in the Accounting group, which has a strong reputation for rigorous and relevant research, and we are seeking to further strengthen this.

The Accounting Department has an impressive publications record and members are editors or on the editorial boards of important accounting journals including: Accounting, Auditing and Accountability Journal, Accounting History, International Journal of Auditing and Qualitative Research in Accounting & Management. With a strong tradition of management accounting research, the Department hosts the annual Management Accounting Research Group (MARG) Conference. Research interests focus mainly on accountability and governance. We are seeking to further strengthen these areas.

We support participation in international conferences, postgraduate supervision (a number of PhD candidates receive Dean’s or ESRC scholarships), and the networking opportunities we have developed with businesses and professions. The School also supports research through funded opportunities to host prominent visiting scholars, seed corn funding for research projects and excellent support for research grant applications.

We seek enthusiastic, passionate and motivated individuals to contribute to the group’s research, teaching and enterprise activities. Applicants at lecturer level should possess a relevant good first degree and should have, or expect shortly to obtain, a doctorate in a relevant discipline. A publication record in refereed journals is desirable along with the clear potential to publish internationally. At Senior Lecturer level, a strong publication record, showing future research potential would be expected. All applicants are expected to be committed to the highest standards of accounting education. The role will be located in Birmingham and there is a requirement for you to live within commuting distance of the Aston Triangle main campus.

Currently the Accounting Department at Aston Business School has 25 full-time/part-time members of staff. The group offers dedicated programmes in accounting at undergraduate level (B.Sc. Accounting and Finance) and a number at postgraduate level (face-to-face and online). We are seeing significant growth in student numbers.
